The Juwel Nitrate Removal Sponge contains bacteria, which will after a while reduce the nitrate level in the aquarium significantly. Having removed the nitrates, which is the nutrient for the algae, they will starve or not even start to develop of this in turn will enhance the vitality of fish and plants. Using the Juwel Nitrate Removal Sponge can mean that the partial exchange of the aquarium water can be extended to 4 weekly intervals.
In order to allow a proper level of micro-organisms in the filtration system it is recommended to exchange the sponge every 6 weeks.

Trotz Vorbehandlung des Wassers und üblicher Filterung sowie zurückhaltender Fütterung ihatten wir immer Probleme mit der Wasserqualität in unserem Aquarium. Meine Recherechen im Internet führten mich zu Nitrax. Ich habe erst mal zwei Stück bestellt, um die Wirkung auszuprobieren und muss sagen, wir sind begeistert. Wir haben schon einen No3 Wert von fast 30 mg/l im Leitungswasser.
Durch den Nitrax-Schwamm senkt sich der Nitratwert im Aquarium sogar unter den Wert des Leitungswassers, selbst wenn nur alle 4 Wochen Wasserwechsel gemacht wird. Der Schwamm scheint allerdings wirklich alle 2 Monate getauscht werden zu müssen, damit der Nitratwert niedrig bleibt.Antonis R. at 26.06.2020:
