Hobby Phosphat-Killer is a specially treated natural stone that reduces the level of phosphate in the water. Higher phosphate concentrations can have various reasons. In the natural habitat of fish and plants phosphate compounds are onlyfound in very small quantities (0.001-0.01 mg/l). In the aquarium, however, these levels can quickly rise to between 10 and 100 times as much. High levels of phosphate (exceeding 0.5 mg/l in freshwater and 0.1 mg/l in sea water) cause an above-average growth of algae. Hobby Phosphat-Killer absorbs phosphate without releasing it back into the water even when the material is saturated, thus creating optimal living conditions for both fish and plants. Hobby Phosphat-Killer in inside and outside filters is most effective during the last filtering stage. In case of coarse soiling, we recommend using a layer of filter padding. Depending on the phosphate level, the product is effective for approx. 6-7 months in a 200-l-aquarium with a normal fish stock. Overdosing is not possible. The phosphate level should be checked regularly to be able to replace the Hobby Phosphat-Killer once the material is exhausted. The optimal phosphate level is around 0.01-0.05 mg/l. Levels of 0,1 mg/l in sea water and 0.5 mg/l in freshwater should not be exceeded.
Do not keep more than 1 cm of fish in 1 l of aquarium water, place sufficient plants into the aquarium, and feed sparingly. Frozen feed should best be defrosted in the Hobby Multibox, where the frozen feed is separated from the defrosted water. In addition, change parts of the water regularly. In some regions, phosphate can get into the tap water via the ground water due to the fertilisers used in agriculture. If necessary, the phosphate should already be extracted from the tap water prior to the part change of water. Before first use, rinse product thoroughly to avoid water discoloration.
